In this post we’ll look at a lot of vocabulary and expressions that will come in handy when you travel. Let’s start with the basics.
我的行李箱 Wǒ de xínglixiāng My Suitcase
Before you travel, you of course need to pack. So let’s start there.
- 行李箱
xínglixiāng
suitcase - 我要收拾我的行李箱。
Wǒ yào shōushi wǒde xínglixiāng.
I need to pack my suitcase.
- 我的行李箱很重/很轻/满了/很空。
Wǒde xínglixiāng hěnzhòng/hěnqīng/mǎnle/hěnkōng.
My suitcase is heavy/light/full/empty. - 我的衣服放不进行李箱里。

在机场 zài jīchǎng At the Airport
If you’re traveling, you’re probably going to leave from and arrive at an airport.
- 机票，登机牌，护照，航班

在酒店 zài jiǔdiàn At the Hotel
You’ve finally arrived, so let’s get you settled in your hotel room.

火车站在哪里？ Huǒchēzhàn zài nǎlǐ? Where is the train station?
Once you’re settled into your hotel, you probably want to know where things are in case you need to pop out and buy something.

就在酒店旁边。 jiù zài jiǔdiàn pángbiān. It’s next to the hotel
Of course, if you ask where things are, you’ll need some basic vocabulary related to directions and getting around.

Zài fùjìn ma?
Is it nearby? - 离这儿远吗？
Lí zhèr yuǎn ma?
Is it far from here? - 我能走路到那儿吗？
Wǒ néng zǒulù dào nàr ma?
Can I walk there? - 就在附近。
Jiù zài fùjìn.
It’s nearby. - 离这儿很远。
Lí zhèr hěnyuǎn.
It’s far from here. - 就在街对面。
Jiù zài jiē duìmiàn.
It’s across the street. - 就在酒店旁边。
Jiù zài jiǔdiàn pángbiān.
It’s next to the hotel. - 过马路。
Guò mǎlù.
Cross the street. - 过桥。
Guòqiáo.
Cross the bridge. - 右转。
Yòuzhuǎn.
Turn right. - 左转。
Zuǒzhuǎn.
Turn left. - 一直往前走。

Go straight ahead. - 在火车站旁边。

It’s next to the train station. - 在火车站附近。

It’s near the train station. - 在火车站后面。

You probably want to see some sights outside of the city, and for that you’ll need to get around.
