The Language Garage caught my eye due to the reasonable price, and it made me stayed due to the amazing French instructor.
If you’re looking for a French tutor that genuinely cares, then I highly recommend Sev! Sev is very patient, flexible, knowledgeable, and so much more. Even though the lessons are planned out, Sev is always willing to adapt the lessons to focus on the group areas of need. I have been meeting once a week with Sev for over 6 months and have learned so much. I have thoroughly enjoyed my lessons to date, and look forward to continuing to improve my French!

The Language Garage has been essential for me as I progress towards French proficiency. After learning the basics and slowly increasing our vocabulary we naturally began speaking (with lots of patience and encouragement). Sev is a fantastic teacher! He creates a comfortable and open learning environment and gives you his utmost attention. He is very patient as you attempt to answer and structure sentences, and at the same time is able to push you to learn and grow your abilities.

Every week, I look forward to learning Korean with the Language Garage. My instructor, Doyeon, fosters a patient and nurturing environment in which I always feel comfortable asking questions and practicing my Korean. Poor Sev! He is so patient with us as we try to work through grammar and pronunciation problems. One excellent thing Sev is able to do is differentiate with his teaching. He provides each person with what they need to proceed, and is able to do it with humor and kindness. He’s also not afraid to tell us what we need to work on to improve. I love that.

My French instructor, Chris, has the patience of the best kindergarten teacher, the warm humor of a close friend, and the worldly references of a true cosmopolitan. He’s brought me to a fluency level above a point where I struggled to go on my own. If you are on a journey of learning another language and its corresponding culture, Chris will be a great instructor for you!

I highly recommend The Language Garage for its holistic approach towards language learning. The courses are affordable and student-centered, and the group lessons only include 3-4 students with a live native speaker. An ebook and audio are included with each course so that I can continue learning offline.
Don’t want to deal with gimmicky apps or fussy textbooks? But can’t commit the time to go to an actual class? If you’re anything like me, then Language Garage is the perfect solution. The weekly hour-long lessons with my native Italian instructor means an expert’s guiding and customizing my learning, while the student book and audio files break up daily exercises into fun, bite-sized chunks. I haven’t found this human + online approach anywhere else, and thanks to Language Garage, I feel confident that with enough practice, I can hold my own in Italy, whether it’s chatting with Milanese fashionistas, or ordering truffled tagliatelle in Assisi!
I am now well into the second set of lessons for Spanish, and I can honestly say I’m surprised at how quickly I feel I’ve been able to learn. The rate of vocabulary introduction feels just right, and my teacher, Ygor, is really focused on ensuring proper grammar, which I suspect isn’t always the case when approaching language learning from a primarily conversational lens. Looking forward to continuing my language journey with The Language Garage and Ygor. Take the plunge; you know you want to!
I started taking French lessons at the Language Garage about three months ago. French is such a beautiful language, and I have always wanted to learn it. I like how the lesson slides, practice sand review sections in the student book,, and the audio are well organized, which allows me to student independently before and after the lessons. If you’re looking for a low-cost online one-on-one or small group language class, you are at the right place!
I’m a bonafide American monoglot who’d long ago given up on ever penetrating the mysteries of a second language. And when I found myself on the cusp of a trip to France, I figured that actually learning some French would be way off the map for me. But I cast aside my doubts and signed up for French 1 with the Language Garage. I would like to say that my instructor Sev was as good as his word, but in fact he was better. His lessons were non-threatening but still challenging, and he was always sure to meet me in my comfort zone. In between lessons, there was written and audio practice and review, and like so many things, the more I used these, the better things went. But even when life intervened and I didn’t get as much work done between lessons as I’d like, Sev always picked up at just the right place to keep me on track. I am happy to report that I puttered along just fine on my trip to France. The Language Garage not only got me back on the road, but made sure I didn’t turn à droite when I should have turned à gauche. So, whether your language needs involve a simple tune up or a complete overhaul, find your way to the Language Garage, because if they can repair a junker like me, imagine what they can do for you!
I had many doubts about taking classes online because I’m pretty tradition, and I’m used to going to a school and taking classes in the conventional way. But now I can say that The Language Garage changed my way of thinking and I’m very comfortable taking classes this way. With The Language Garage, I’ve found everything I need to learn a new language, from home, at the most convenient time for me, in the easiest way. I have a very useful student book, which has audios that I can listen at any time to practice on my own. Most importantly I have a teacher who’s super professional, passionate and fun. I’m really enjoying my lessons The Language Garage, and I finally think I’m learning English. Thank you, Chris, for being the best English teacher!

I was only using an app to learn Spanish, but I really missed having a teacher to talk to, so I decided to try The Language Garage. I’ve had three lessons with my teacher so far, and I love him. He’s patient, he’s nice, he’s funny, and I can tell that he’s got a lot of experience teaching. The student book and audio exercises are great, too. I have my lesson every Monday, and then I have a routine I can stick to on the other days.

I really liked the structure of participating in a class once a week with our native speaker Doyeon combined with practicing with the audio files and workbook throughout the week. This helped me advance faster than I expected. The progression of vocabulary, grammar, and topics built upon each other to help reinforce teachings from prior weeks. I also liked the integration of cultural topics – I didn’t realize there are so many types of kimchi, and now I know how to read, write, and say them. 고마워요, Language Garage!
I highly recommend learning a language with The Language Garage. It’s a lot of fun to interact with a teacher and a small group of people (rather than with the computer only). The lessons are manageable for the busy adult and the one-hour lesson is easy to fit in one evening a week.
Not only am I learning French, I’m also having a blast with my instructor and the other students in my group. The lessons are low key and not at all intimidating, and I love that I can review and practice everything on my own schedule in between. I’m having a great time.
