こんにちは！ すぎた先生です！ Kon’nichiwa! Sugita sensei desu! Hello! I’m Sugita-sensei. I live in Tokyo, but I lived in New York for many years. I have a Ph.D in linguistics from the City University of New York, and I taught Japanese and linguistics at Queens College in New York for 20 years. I’ve authored Japanese textbooks published by Living Language/Random House, and I’ve served on an advisory committee for language proficiency assessment at the U.S. Defense Language Institute.
I love sharing my language with people. I’ve taught hundreds of students, and I’ve also studied several languages myself, so I really understand the challenges and obstacles that language students face as they work to achieve their goals.
Whether you’re a beginner with no background in Japanese at all, or you’re an intermediate or advanced student working toward fluency, I’d love to help you. SMALL GROUP ONLINE CLASSES IN JAPANESE
The Language Garage offers affordable, high-quality online instruction to small groups of no more than five students for just $80 per student for six weeks. Typically, group sizes are even smaller, three or four. This gives you a great deal of individual attention, and plenty of time to speak with your instructor and the other students in your small group.
Small groups meet once a week for six weeks, and each session lasts forty-five minutes on a fixed schedule. Upcoming small groups are listed below. BEGINNER JAPANESE 1: Suitable for absolute beginners, or anyone needing a brush-up on the basics. Learn greetings and courtesy expressions, how to introduce yourself, and basic vocabulary and grammar that will get you started on a wonderful journey of learning Japanese!
