Sei d’accordo? Do you agree? Giving Opinions, Agreeing, and Disagreeing in Italian
In this post we’ll learn how to give opinions in Italian. That means that we’ll cover some Italian vocabulary and expressions that you can use to express your opinion, ask about other people’s opinions, agree, or disagree with someone. First we’ll look learn some expressions that you can use to ask others for their opinions. Then we’ll learn how to say that you like something. Next, we’ll look at expressions you can use to say that you don’t like something. After that we’ll see expressions for agreeing and disagreeing. Finally, we’ll end with ways to say that you think someone is making a good point, or not such a good point.

Let’s start with some questions that you can ask to find out other people’s opinions.
- Ti piace questo film/questo libro?
Do you like this film/ this book? - Cosa ne pensi di questa canzone/di questo dipinto (quadro)?
What do you think of this song/ this painting? - Qual è la tua opinione su questo argomento?
What’s your opinion on this topic?
- Sei d’accordo con me?
Do you agree with me? - Cosa ne pensi dell’articolo?
What did you think of the article? - Ti è piaciuta la festa/la lezione?
Did you like the party/ the class? - Raccomandi questo ristorante/questo libro?
Do you recommend this restaurant/ this book? - Perché ti senti così?
Why do you feel that way? - Puoi spiegare la tua opinione?
Can you explain your opinion? - Cosa ti piace? Perché ti piace?
What do you like about it? Why do you like it? - Cosa non ti piace? Perché non ti piace?
What don’t you like about it? Why don’t you like it?
Il film mi è piaciuto molto. I liked the film very much.
Now let’s look at some expressions that you can use to express that you like something. Some vocabulary that might come in handy is: veramente bravo/bello – really good, fantastico – great, interessante – interesting, affascinante – fascinating, molto piacevole – very enjoyable, originale – original, logico – logical.
- Il film è stato davvero bello/fantastico.
The film was really good/ great. - Il ristorante era meraviglioso/ fantastico.
The restaurant was wonderful/ fantastic. - Mi sono divertito/a molto alla festa.
I had a great time at the party. - Ho pensato che il libro fosse affascinante.
I thought the book was fascinating. - Ho trovato l’articolo davvero interessante.
I found the article really interesting. - Penso che questa canzone sia davvero bella.
I think that this song is really good.
Non mi è piaciuto per niente il film. I really didn’t like the film at all.
Now let’s look at some expressions that you can use to express that you don’t like something. Some vocabulary that might come in handy is: davvero male, brutto – really bad, terribile – terrible, noioso – boring, orribile – awful, non originale – unoriginal, illogico – illogical.
- Il film era davvero brutto/terribile.
The film was really bad/ awful. - Il ristorante era terribile.
The restaurant was terrible. - La festa è stata noiosa.
The party was boring. - Pensavo che il libro non fosse originale.
I thought the book was unoriginal. - Ho trovato l’articolo davvero illogico.
I found the article really illogical. - Penso che questa canzone sia terribile.
I think that this song is terrible. - Non lo/la sopporto. Non sopporto questa canzone/ questo posto.
I can’t stand him/ her. I can’t stand this song/ this place.
Sono d’accordo con te. I agree with you.
Here are some expressions that you can use to show that you agree or disagree with someone.
- Siamo d’accordo. Sono d’accordo con te/ con questo/con quello.
We agree. I agree with you/ that. - Non siamo d’accordo. Non sono d’accordo con te/con questo/con quello.
We disagree. I don’t agree with you/ that. - Hai ragione. Hai assolutamente ragione.
You’re right. You’re absolutely right. - Ti sbagli. Ti sbagli totalmente.
You’re wrong. You’re totally wrong. - La penso allo stesso modo riguardo a questo libro/film.
I feel the same way about this book/ film. - La penso diversamente riguardo a questa canzone/a questo scrittore/ a questa scrittrice.
I feel differently about this song/ writer. - Ho la stessa opinione al riguardo.
I have the same opinion about it. - Ho un’opinione diversa al riguardo.
I have a different opinion about it.
Questo ha molto senso. That makes a lot of sense.
Here are some expressions and vocabulary that you can use if you think someone is making a good point.
- Questo è davvero un buon punto.
That’s a really good point. - Questo ha molto senso.
That makes a lot of sense. - È del tutto logico.
That’s completely logical. - Questo dimostra il tuo punto/ la tua opinione.
That proves your point/ opinion. - Ha fornito ottimi esempi.
She gave really good examples. - Ha fatto molte ricerche per sostenere la sua affermazione.
He did a lot of research to support his claim. - L’articolo/ L’intervista mi ha fatto cambiare idea.
The article/ The interview changed my mind. - Questo è un argomento molto convincente/ forte.
That’s very a convincing/ strong argument.
Questo non ha senso! That makes no sense!
- Questo è un pessimo/cattivo esempio
That’s a really bad example. - Questo non ha senso.
That makes no sense. - Questo é totalmente illogico.
That’s totally illogical. - Non stai dimostrando il tuo punto.
You’re not proving your point. - Non hai esempi di quello che stai dicendo.
You have no examples of what you’re saying. - Non ci sono prove a sostegno della tua affermazione.
There’s no evidence that supports your claim. - È ridicolo/ assurdo/ stupido/ idiota.
That’s ridiculous/ absurd/ stupid/ idiotic.
