In this post we’ll talk about vocabulary and expressions related to music: what you listen to, what you dance to, and what kind of musical instruments you may play.

Let’s start with some of the basics. If you want to talk about music, you’ll want to know how to say: una canzone song, un/una cantante singer, un gruppo/una band group/band, un album album, i testi lyrics, la radio radio, un video musicale music video, ascoltare la musica to listen to music, cantare to sing, ballare to dance.
- Qual è il tuo gruppo preferito?
What’s your favorite band? - Chi è il tuo cantante preferito/la tua cantante preferita?
Who’s your favorite singer? - Ascolto sempre la musica in macchina.
I always listen to music in the car.
- Mi piace/Non mi piace questa canzone.
I like/don’t like this song. - Alza il volume! Adoro questa canzone.
Turn the volume up! I love this song. - Abbassa il volume! La musica è troppo alta.
Turn the volume down! The music is too loud. - Questa canzone ha un grande ritmo.
This song has a great beat. - Canticchio sempre questa canzone.
I always sing along to this song. - Ballo sempre su questa canzone.

You will also need to know the verb suonare (uno strumento musicale) to play (a musical instrument).
