春天 Chūntiān: Talking about Spring in Chinese
In this post, we’ll learn vocabulary expressions that you can use to talk about spring in Chinese. First, we’ll learn some general vocabulary that you can use to welcome the season. Next, we’ll see some expressions that you can use to talk about spring weather and longer days. After that we’ll see some expressions that you can use to talk about a spring mood. Finally, we’ll end with expressions and vocabulary to talk about the natural world during the spring.
春天来了。 chūntiān lái le. Spring is here!
At long last, 天气寒冷 tiānqì hánlěng the cold weather and 昼短夜长 zhòu cháng yè duǎn the short days of winter are over, at least in the northern hemisphere. Even if other things going on in the world are not very happy, at least we have the spring to enjoy. And that means 天气变暖和了 Tiānqì biàn nuǎnhuo le the weather is warmer, 天变长了 Tiān biàn cháng le the days are longer, 阳光灿烂 yángguāng cànlàn there’s more sunlight, and of course 漂亮的花儿 Piàoliang de huār there are beautiful flowers. So, let’s cover some happy, bright vocabulary to help you talk about the spring in Chinese.
天变暖和了。 Tiān biàn nuǎnhuo le. The days are warmer
The best thing about spring is probably 好天气 hǎo tiānqì the nice weather and 阳光 yángguāng the sunshine. Hopefully you’ll find plenty of occasions to say:
- 天气真好。
Tiānqì zhēn hǎo.
The weather is nice. - 今天很暖和。
Jīntiān hěn nuǎnhuo.
It’s warm today. - 今天是个大晴天。
Jīntiān shìgè dàqíngtiān.
It’s sunny today. - 天真蓝。
Tiān zhēn lán.
The sky is blue. - 阳光灿烂 。
Yángguāng cànlàn.
The sun is shining.
天变长了。Tiān biàn cháng le. The days are longer
Even though people don’t turn their clocks ahead in spring, you could still say:
- 白天越来越长。
Báitiān yuèláiyuè cháng.
We have more daylight. - 夜越来越短。
Yè yuèláiyuè duǎn.
The night is shorter. - 太阳落山越来越晚。
Tàiyáng luòshān yuèláiyuè wǎn.
The sun sets later. - 日出越来越早。
Rìchū yuèláiyuè zǎo.
The sun rises earlier.
我很开心。 wǒ hěn kāixīn. I am happy!
It’s no exaggeration that many people’s moods change in the spring. Everything is brighter and happier, so you might want to say:
- 我今天心情很好。
Wǒ jīntiān xīnqíng hěnhǎo.
I’m in a good mood today. - 春天让我心情好。
Chūntiān ràng wǒ xīnqíng hǎo.
I’m happy because it’s spring. - 我更有活力。
Wǒ gèng yǒu huólì.
I have more energy. - 我感觉非常棒。
Wǒ gǎnué fēicháng bàng.
I feel great.
自然 zìrán Nature
How about 自然 zìrán nature? In the spring you probably want to talk about 鸟 niǎo the birds, 花儿 huār the flowers, and 绿叶 lǜyè the green leaves.
- 花儿都开了。
Huār dōu kāi le.
The flowers are blooming. - 树叶发芽了。
Shùyè fāyá le.
Leaves are budding. - 小鸟在歌唱。
Xiǎoniǎo zài gēchàng.
The birds are singing. - 空气很新鲜。
Kōngqì hěn xīnxiān.
The air is fresh.
Winter can be rough on some people, but thinking about spring will hopefully bring 微笑 wēixiào a smile to your face.
