Le printemps est arrivé ! Spring is here!
At long last, le temps froid the cold weather and les courts jours d’hiver the short days of winter are over, at least in the northern hemisphere. Even if other things going on in the world are not very happy, at least we have the spring to enjoy. And that means il fait plus chaud, the weather is warmer, les jours sont plus longs the days are longer, il y a plus de soleil there’s more sunlight, and of course il y a beaucoup de belles fleurs there are beautiful flowers. So, let’s cover some happy, bright vocabulary to help you talk about the spring in Italian.
Les jours sont plus chauds. The days are warmer.
The best thing about spring is probably le beau temps the nice weather and le soleil the sunshine. Hopefully you’ll find plenty of occasions to say:
- Il fait beau.
The weather is nice. - Il fait chaud aujourd’hui.
It’s warm today. - Il fait beau aujourd’hui.
It’s a nice day today. - Le ciel est bleu.
The sky is blue. - Le soleil brille.
The sun is shining.
Les jours sont plus longs. The days are longer.
Every year nous passons à l’heure d’été we turn the clocks ahead and we immediately have an hour more of sunlight. Which of course means:
- Nous avons plus de lumière du jour.
We have more daylight. - La nuit est plus courte.
The night is shorter. - Le soleil se couche plus tard.
The sun sets later. - Le soleil se lève plus tôt.
The sun rises earlier.
Even if that last one isn’t technically true, it seems that way. And spring is as much an attitude as anything else. Speaking of which…
Je suis content(e) ! I am happy!
It’s no exaggeration that many people’s moods change in the spring. Everything is brighter and happier, so you might want to say:
- Je suis de bonne humeur aujourd’hui.
I’m in a good mood today. - Je suis content(e) car c’est le printemps.
I’m happy because it’s spring. - J’ai plus d’énergie.
I have more energy. - Je me sens bien.
I feel good.
La natire nature
How about la nature nature? In the spring you probably want to talk about les oiseaux the birds, les fleurs the flowers, and les feuilles vertes the green leaves.
- Les fleurs éclosent.
The flowers are blooming. - Les feuilles bourgeonnent.
The leaves are budding. - Les oiseaux chantent.
The birds are singing. - L’air est frais.
The air is fresh.
Even if things are difficult this year, thinking about spring will hopefully bring un sourire a smile to your face.
