Le Temps: Weather in French
In this post you’ll learn how to talk about weather in French. First, we’ll start with some general French vocabulary. Basic Weather Vocabulary
Let’s start with some basic vocabulary.

Talking about the Weather in French
Here are some basic expressions that you can use to describe typical weather.
- Quel temps fait-il aujourd’hui/ce week-end ?
What’s the weather like today/this weekend? - Il fait beau. / C’est une belle journée.
It’s a beautiful day. - Il y a du soleil.
It’s sunny. - Il fait chaud.
It’s hot. - Il fait froid.
It’s cold. - C’est nuageux.
It’s cloudy. - Il y a du vent.
It’s windy. - Il pleut.
It’s raining. - Il neige.
It’s snowing. - Il y a une tempête/un orage.
There’s a storm. - Il fait humide/le temps est humide.
It’s humid.
French Vocabulary for Hot Days
- Il fait trop chaud aujourd’hui !
It’s too hot today. - Il fait très humide.
It’s very humid. - Je transpire.
I’m sweating. - Mets la climatisation !
Put the air-conditioner on! - J’adore/J’aime vraiment quand il fait chaud.
I love/really like warm weather.
French Vocabulary for Cold Days
- Il gèle !
It’s freezing! - Il tombe de la neige fondue.
It’s sleeting. - Il fait froid et venteux.
It’s cold and windy. - Nous allons avoir du blizzard cette semaine.
We’re going to have a blizzard this week. - Je tremble de froid !
I’m shivering! - J’adore/J’aime vraiment la neige.
I love/really like snow.
