It’s June, which means that summer is right around the corner. So let’s see some vocabulary for talking about the nice weather, the beach, and outdoor activities.
날씨가 좋아요. nalshi-ga johayo. The weather is beautiful.
For many people, the weather is the greatest thing about summer. So, let’s give you some expressions you can use.
- 오늘 날씨가 좋아요.
oneul nalshi-ga johayo.
The weather is beautiful today. - 태양이 빛나고 있어요.
taeyang-i binago isseoyo.
The sun is shining. - 하늘에 구름 한점 없어요.
haneul-e guleum hanjeom eobseoyo.
There are no clouds in the sky.
- 바람이 좋아요.
balam-i johayo.
There’s a nice breeze. - 공기가 상쾌 해요.
gonggi-ga sangkwae haeyo.
The air is fresh. - 완벽한 날이에요.
wanbyeohan nalieyo.
It’s a perfect day.
너무 더워요! neomu deowoyo! It’s too hot!
Of course, not everyone loves summer weather. If you’re one of those people, you may want to say something like:
- 오늘은 너무 더워요.
oneul-eun neomu deowoyo.
It’s too hot today. - 매우 습하네요.
maeu seubhaneyo.
It’s very humid. - 저는 땀이 나네요.
jeoneun ttam-i naneyo.
I’m sweating. - 에어컨을 켜 세요!
eeokeon-eul kyeo seyo!
Put the air-conditioner on!
우리 밖으로 나가자! uri bakk-eulo nagaja! Let’s go outside!
When the weather is nice in the summer, you’ll hopefully have a chance to take advantage of it and get outside. Whether you like 편안한 야외 활동 pyeonanhan yaoe hwaldong relaxing outdoor activities or 스포츠 seupotseu sports, there’s usually something for everyone in the summer.
- 우리 산책하러 가요.
uri sanchaeghaleo gayo.
Let’s go for a walk. - 저는 공원에 가고 싶어요.
jeo-neun gongwon-e gago shipeoyo.
I want to go to the park. - 우리 앉아서 일몰을 봐요.
uri anjaseo ilmol-eul bwayo.
Let’s sit and watch the sunset. - 우리는 이번 주말에 소풍 갈 거예요.
uri-neun ibeon jumal-e sopung gal geoyeyo.
We’re having a picnic this weekend. - 우리 자전거 타러 가자.
uri jajeongeo taleo gaja.
Let’s go for a bike ride. - 우리 산에 하이킹 하러 가자.
uri san-e haiking haleo gaja.
Let’s go for a hike in the mountains. - 우리 테니스 치자.
uri teniseu chija.
Let’s play tennis. - 우리 농구 하자.
uri nong-gu haja.
Let’s play basketball. - 우리 축구 하자.
uri chuggu haja.
Let’s play soccer. - 우리 야구 하자.
uri yagu haja.
Let’s play baseball. - 저는 달리기 하고 싶어요.
jeo-neun dalligi hago shipeoyo.
I want to go for a run. - 우리는 암벽 등반 하러 갈 거예요.
uri-neun ambyeog deungban haleo gal geoyeyo.
We’re going rock climbing.
우리 해변에 가자. uri haebyeon-e gaja. Let’s go to the beach.
The beach is a favorite summer destination. If you’re going, you’ll probably want to know these words: 수영복 suyeongbog a swimsuit, 수건 sugeon a towel, 선글라스 seongeullaseu sunglasses, 선크림 seonkeulim sunscreen, 좋은 책 joheun chaeg a good book, 서핑 보드 seoping bodeu a surfboard. Here are some things you may see at the beach: 바다 bada the ocean, 파도 pado a wave, 모래 morae sand, 조개 껍질 jogae kkeobjil seashells, 등대 deungdae a lighthouse, 갈매기 galmaegi a seagull, 게 ge a crab, 해파리 haepali a jellyfish, 생선 saengseon a fish, 불가사리 bulgasali a starfish,상어 sangeo a shark, 돌고래 dolgolae a dolphin, 보트 boteu a boat, 판자길 panjagil the boardwalk, 아이스크림 가게 aiseukeurim gage an ice cream shop. Some other expressions that will come in handy are:
- 저는 햇볕에 누워있고 싶어요.
jeoneun haebyeot-e nuwoissgo shipeoyo.
I want to lie in the sun. - 우리 수영하러 가자.
uri suyeonghaleo gaja.
Let’s go swimming. - 저는 햇볕에 탔어요.
jeoneun haebyeot-e tasseoyo.
I’m getting a suntan. - 저는 햇볕에 화상을 입었어요.
jeoneun haebyeot-e hwasangeul ibeosseoyo.
I got a sun burn. - 우리 모래성을 만들자.
uri molaeseong-eul mandeulja.
Let’s build a sandcastle. - 우리 파도 타고 놀아요.
uri pado tago nolayo.
Let’s play in the waves. - 우리 조개 껍질을 찾아요.
uri jogae kkeobjil-eul chajayo.
Let’s look for seashells. - 저는 아이스크림 먹고 싶어요.
jeoneun aiseukeulim meoggo shipeoyo.
I want ice cream.

여름에는 해가 늦게 진다 yeoleum-eneun haega neujge jinda, the sun sets late in the summer, but there’s nothing like a nice summer night, whether you’re having drinks outside with your friends, or you’re just sitting and listening to nature.
- 우리 밖에 앉아요.
uri bakk-e anjayo.
Let’s sit outside. - 밤이 시원해요.
bam-i shiwonhaeyo.
The night is cool. - 저는 귀뚜라미 소리를 들어요.
jeo-neun gwittulami solileul deuleoyo.
I hear crickets. - 저는 반딧불을 봐요.
jeo-neun bandibul-eul bwayo.
I see lightning bugs. - 나무 사이로 바람이 불어요.
namu sailo balam-i buleoyo.
The breeze is blowing through the trees. - 달이 뜨고 있어요.
dal-i tteugo isseoyo.
The moon is rising. - 내일은 또 다른 아름다운 날이 될 거예요.
naeil-eun tto daleun aleumdaun nal-i doel geoyeyo.
Tomorrow will be another beautiful day.
