- Hace buen tiempo hoy.
The weather is beautiful today. - Hace sol.
The sun is shining. - El cielo no está nublado.
There are no clouds in the sky.
- Hay una brisa agradable.
There’s a nice breeze. - El aire está fresco.
The air is fresh. - El día está perfecto.
It’s a perfect day.
Hace mucho calor. It’s too hot!
Of course, not everyone loves summer weather. If you’re one of those people, you may want to say something like:
- Hace mucho calor hoy.
It’s too hot today. - Hay mucha humedad.
It’s very humid. - Estoy sudando.

Talking about the beach is a big part of talking about summer in Spanish. If you’re going, you’ll probably want to know these words: un traje de baño a swimsuit, una toalla a towel, gafas de sol sunglasses, bloqueador solar sunscreen, un buen libro a good book, una tabla de surf a surfboard. Here are some things you may see at the beach: el océano the ocean, una ola a wave, la arena sand, las conchas de mar seashells, un faro a lighthouse, una gaviota a seagull, un cangrejo a crab, una medusa a jellyfish, un pez a fish, una estrella de mar a starfish, un tiburón a shark, un delfín a dolphin, un bote a boat, el paseo marítimo the boardwalk, una heladería an ice cream shop. Some other expressions that will come in handy are:
- Quiero tumbarme al sol.
I want to lie in the sun. - Vamos a nadar.
Let’s go swimming. - Me estoy bronceando.
I’m getting a sun tan. - Tengo una quemadura de sol.
I have a sun burn. - Vamos a construir un castillo de arena.
Let’s build a sand castle. - Vamos a jugar con las olas.
Let’s play in the waves. - Vamos a buscar conchas de mar.
Let’s look for seashells. - Quiero helado.
