Ты согласен? Do you agree? Giving Opinions, Agreeing, and Disagreeing in Russian

In this post we’ll learn how to give opinions in Russian. That means that we’ll cover some Russian vocabulary and expressions that you can use to express your opinion, ask about other people’s opinions, agree, or disagree with someone. First we’ll look learn some expressions that you can use to ask others for their opinions. Then we’ll learn how to say that you like something. Next, we’ll look at expressions you can use to say that you don’t like something. After that we’ll see expressions for agreeing and disagreeing. Finally, we’ll end with ways to say that you think someone is making a good point, or not such a good point.

Что вы думаете/ты думаешь об этом фильме? What do you think of this film?

First, let’s start with some questions that you can ask to find out other people’s opinions.

• Вы согласны? (pl) / Ты согласен? (m) / Ты согласна? (f)
  Do you agree?
• Вам/тебе нравится этот фильм/эта книга?
  Do you like this film/ this book?
• Что вы думаете/ты думаешь об этой песне/об этой картине?
  What do you think of this song/ this painting?
• Каково ваше/твоё мнение по этому вопросу?
  What’s your opinion on this topic?
• Вы согласны со мной? (pl) / Ты согласен со мной? (m) / Ты согласна со мной? (f)
  Do you agree with me?
• Что вы думаете/ ты думаешь о статье?
  What did you think of the article? 

• Как вам/тебе понравилась вечеринка?
  How did you like the party?
• Как вам/тебе понравилось занятие/понравился урок?
  How did you like the class?
• Вы рекомендуете/ты рекомендуешь этот ресторан/эту книгу?
  Do you recommend this restaurant/ this book?
• Почему вы/ты так думаете/думаешь?
  Why do you feel that way?
• Можете ли вы/можешь ли ты объяснить вашу/свою точку зрения/ваше/своё мнение? 
  Can you explain your opinion?
• Что вам/тебе в этом нравится? Почему вам/тебе это нравится?
  What do you like about it? Why do you like it?
• Что вам/тебе в этом не нравится? Почему вам/тебе это не нравится?
  What don’t you like about it? Why don’t you like it?

Мне очень понравился фильм. I liked the film very much.

Now let’s look at some expressions that you can use to express that you like something. Some vocabulary that might come in handy is: очень/ действительно хорошо – really good, отлично/ прекрасно/ великолепно – great, интересно – interesting, потрясающе/ захватывающе/ увлекательно – fascinating, очень приятно – very enjoyable, оригинально – original, логично – logical.

• Фильм был действительно хорош/великолепен.
  The film was really good/ great.
• Ресторан был замечательный/фантастический.
  The restaurant was wonderful/ fantastic.
• Я прекрасно провёл (m)/ провела (f) время на вечеринке. 
  I had a great time at the party.
• Мне книга показалась увлекательной.
  I thought the book was fascinating.
• Мне статья показалась действительно интересной.
  I found the article really interesting.
• Я думаю, что эта песня очень хорошая.
  I think that this song is really good.

Мне совершенно не понравился этот фильм. I really didn’t like the film at all.

Next, let’s look at some expressions that you can use to express that you don’t like something. Some vocabulary that might come in handy is: очень/ действительно плохо – really bad, ужасно/ отвратительно – terrible, скучно – boring, ужасно/ отвратительно – awful, неоригинально – unoriginal, нелогично – illogical.

• Это был очень плохой/отвратительный фильм.
  The film was really bad/ awful.
• Это был отвратительный ресторан.
  The restaurant was terrible.
• Это была скучная вечеринка.
  The party was boring.
• Мне книга показалась неоригинальной.
  I thought the book was unoriginal.
• Мне статья показалась совершенно не логичной.
  I found the article really illogical.
• Я думаю, что эта песня ужасна.
  I think that this song is terrible.
• Я не выношу его/её/эту песню/это место.
  I can’t stand him/ her/ this song/ this place. 

Я согласен (m) /согласна (f) с вами. I agree with you.

Now, let’s see some expressions that you can use to show that you agree or disagree with someone. 

• Мы согласны/ Мы сходимся во мнениях. Я согласен/согласна с вами// с этим.
  We agree. I agree with you/ that.
• Мы расходимся во мнениях. Я не согласен/не согласна с вами/с этим. 
  We disagree. I don’t agree with you/ that.
• Ты прав. Ты абсолютно прав. (m.)
  Ты права. Ты абсолютно права. (f.)
  You’re right. You’re absolutely right.
• Ты не прав. Ты совершенно не прав.
  Ты не права. Ты совершенно не права. 
  You’re wrong. You’re totally wrong.
• У меня такое же мнение об этой книге/фильме.
  У меня эта книга/этот фильм вызывает такие же чувства. 
  I feel the same way about this book/ film.
• Я по-другому отношусь к этому писателю/ к этой песне. 
  I feel differently about this song/ writer. 
• У меня такое же мнение по этому поводу/ об этом.
  I have the same opinion about it.
• У меня другое мнение на этот счёт.
  I have a different opinion about it.

Очень разумно. That makes a lot of sense.

Finally, here are some expressions and vocabulary that you can use if you think someone is making a good point.

• Это очень хорошая мысль./Очень хорошо подмечено.
  That’s a really good point.
• Очень разумно./ В этом много смысла./ Это имеет большой смысл.
  That makes a lot of sense. 
• Это совершенно логично. 
  That’s completely logical. 
• Это подтверждает вашу/твою точку зрения/мнение. 
  That proves your point/ opinion.
• Она привела очень хорошие примеры.
  She gave really good examples.
• Он провёл много исследований в поддержку своего заявления.
  He did a lot of research to support his claim.
• Эта статья/это интервью изменила/изменило моё мнение. 
  The article/ The interview changed my mind.
• Это очень убедительный/веский аргумент.
  That’s very a convincing/ strong argument. 

Это бессмыслица! That makes no sense!

• Это очень плохой пример. 
  That’s a really bad example.
• Это бессмыслица./ Это не разумно./ Это не имеет никакого смысла. 
  That makes no sense. 
• Это совершенно нелогично. 
  That’s totally illogical. 
• Это не доказывает вашу/твою точку зрения.
  You’re not proving your point.
• У вас/тебя нет примеров того, что вы/ты говорите/говоришь.
  You have no examples of what you’re saying.
• Нет никаких доказательств, подтверждающих ваше/твоё заявление.
  There’s no evidence that supports your claim.
• Это смешно/абсурдно/глупо/идиотично.
  That’s ridiculous/ absurd/ stupid/ idiotic.
