Ich lese jeden Abend. I read every night.
Whether you read a lot or a little, you may want to say:
- Lesen ist mein Lieblingshobby.
Reading is my favorite hobby. - Ich habe immer ein Buch bei mir.
I always have a book with me. - Ich lese jeden Tag.
I read every day. - Ich lese viele Bücher/ Zeitschriften/ Artikel/ Blogs.
I read a lot of books/magazines/articles/blogs. - Ich lese jeden Abend im Bett.
I read every night in bed. - Ich lese online/ auf meinem Handy/ Smartphone/ Tablet.

Hopefully you enjoy what you’re reading. If that’s the case, you may want to say:
- Ich liebe dieses Buch.
I love this book. - Das ist echt ein gutes Buch.
It’s a really good book. - Dieses Buch ist interessant/spannend/wichtig.
This book is interesting/exciting/important. - Dieses Buch ist wunderschön geschrieben.
This book is beautifully written. - Die Handlung ist originell/überraschend.
The plot is original/surprising. - Er ist meine Lieblingsfigur.
He’s my favorite character. - Sie ist meine Lieblingsfigur.
She’s my favorite character. - Ich kann dieses Buch nicht aus der Hand legen!
I can’t put this book down! - Du musst dieses Buch unbedingt lesen. Ich kann es nur empfehlen.
You have to read this book. I highly recommend it. - Dieses Buch ist sehr beliebt.
This book is very popular. - Dieses Buch ist ein Bestseller.
This book is a best seller.
Dieses Buch ist furchtbar schlecht. This book is terrible!
Of course, not all books are great. If you’re reading something you don’t like, you may want to say:
- Dieses Buch gefällt mir nicht.
I don’t like this book. - Dieses Buch ist furchtbar.
This book is terrible. - Dieses Buch ist langweilig.
This book is boring. - Es ist sehr schlecht geschrieben.
The writing is awful. - Die Handlung ist nicht originell.
The plot is not original. - Die Figuren sind uninteressant.
The characters are not interesting. - Diese Übersetzung ist nicht gut.
This is a bad translation. - Dieses Buch/ diesen Autor/ diese Autorin kann ich nicht ausstehen.
I can’t stand that book/that author. - Ich habe nicht mal das erste Kapitel zu Ende gelesen.
I didn’t even finish the first chapter. - Dieses Buch ist reinste Zeitverschwendung/ rausgeschmissenes Geld.
This book is a waste of time/money.
