In this post we’re going to look at Spanish vocabulary and expressions that will help you talk about computers, emails, social media, and the internet.
Mi computadora My Computer
Let’s start with some basic vocabulary that will help you talk about computer hardware: una computadora / un computador / un ordenador (a computer), un(a) portátil (a laptop), una computadora / un computador / un ordenador de escritorio (a desktop), una pantalla (a screen), un teclado (a keyboard), un ratón (a mouse), una alfombrilla para ratón (a mouse pad), una impresora (a printer), una batería (a battery), un cable (a power cord), una cámara web (a webcam), un micrófono (a microphone), unos audífonos / unos auriculares (a headset), un teléfono inteligente (a smartphone), una tableta (a tablet).
- Tengo que comprar una computadora nueva.
I need to buy a new computer. - ¿Tiene(s) una computadora portátil o de escritorio?
Do you have a laptop or a desktop? - Mi pantalla está rajada.
My screen is cracked.
- Mi teclado está dañado.
My keyboard is broken. - Tengo que cargar mi portátil/teléfono.
I have to recharge my laptop/phone. - Necesito una batería nueva para mi ratón.
I need a new battery for my mouse. - Mi cámara web está encendida/apagada.
My webcam is on/off. - ¿Me puede(s) prestar unos audífonos para mi reunión?
Can I borrow a headset for my meeting? - No uso computadora. Puedo hacer todo en mi tableta.
I don’t use a computer. I can do everything on my tablet.
Correo electrónico Email
Now let’s look at some vocabulary that you can use to talk about email: un correo electrónico (an email), enviar un correo electrónico (to send an email), recibir un correo electrónico (to get/receive an email), un adjunto (attachment), adjuntar una foto/un archivo (to attach a photo/file), responder un correo electrónico (to reply to an email), responder a todos (to reply all), reenviar un correo electrónico (to forward an email).
- Tengo que revisar mi correo electrónico.
I need to check my email. - ¿Cuál es tu/su dirección de correo electrónico?
What’s your email address? - Le estoy escribiendo un correo electrónico a mi amigo/jefe/colega.
I’m writing an email to my friend/boss/colleague. - Me llegan demasiados correos electrónicos.
I get too many emails. - Olvidé el adjunto.
I forgot the attachment. - Por favor, responder a todos.
Please reply all. - Por favor, responder a mí únicamente.
Please reply just to me. - ¿Podría(s) reenviarme el correo electrónico?
Could you forward the email to me?
Mensajes de texto y aplicaciones Text Messages and Apps
If you’re sending a text message instead of an email, you’ll need to know: un texto (a text), un mensaje (a message), enviar un texto (to send a text), recibir un texto (to get/receive a text), responder un texto (to answer a text), enviar un texto grupal (to send a group text), una aplicación (an app), descargar una aplicación (to download an app), actualizar una aplicación (to update an app), borrar/eliminar una aplicación (to delete an app).
- Me está llegando un texto/mensaje.
I’m getting a text/message. - Te/Le envío un texto.
I’ll send you a text. - Envíame la dirección en un texto, por favor.
Text me the address, please. - Le estoy escribiendo un texto a mi novio/novia.
I’m writing a text to my boyfriend/girlfriend. - Envié un mensaje al grupo.
I sent a message to the group. - No envíes textos mientras manejas.
No envíe textos mientras maneja.
Don’t send texts while you’re driving! - No me llegó tu/su texto, no tenía señal.
I didn’t get your text, I had no signal. - ¿Usa(s) WhatsApp u otra aplicación de mensajería?
Do you use WhatsApp or another messaging app? - Esta aplicación es muy buena, pero no es gratuita.
This is a great app, but it’s not free. - Borré/Eliminé esa aplicación porque nunca la uso.
I deleted that app because I never use it. - Esta aplicación hizo que mi teléfono se colgara.
Esta aplicación me colgó el teléfono.
This app made my phone crash. - Tengo demasiadas aplicaciones en mi teléfono/tableta.
I have too many apps on my phone/tablet.
El Internet The Internet
Here’s some vocabulary that will help you talk about the most common things that you do online: el internet de alta velocidad (high speed internet), un sitio web (website), una página web (webpage), un enlace (link), una URL / una dirección URL (URL), el navegador (browser), un buscador / un motor de búsqueda (search engine), estar en línea (to go online), subir / colgar (to upload), descargar / bajar (to download), un router (router), un módem (modem), el wifi (WiFi), iniciar sesión (to log in), cerrar sesión (to log off).
- Leo muchos / un montón de blogs/periódicos/artículos en línea.
I read a lot of blogs/newspapers/articles online. - Paso mucho tiempo en línea.
I spend a lot of time online. - Tengo una suscripción digital/en línea.
I have a digital/online subscription. - Se me olvidó la contraseña. / Olvidé mi contraseña.
I forgot my password. - Estoy subiendo un archivo/mi CV.
I’m uploading a file/my CV. - Estoy descargando una canción/foto.
I’m downloading a song/photo. - No me puedo conectar a internet, tengo que reiniciar mi router.
I can’t get online, I need to restart my router. - Tengo una videollamada en cinco minutos.
I have a video call in five minutes. - Puedo oírte/ oírle, pero el video está congelado.
I can hear you, but the video is frozen. - ¿Tengo que iniciar sesión para entrar a la reunión?
Do I need to sign in to the meeting? - Voy a cerrar la sesión y a reiniciar la reunión.
I’ll log off and restart the meeting. - Necesito un buen servicio de internet porque trabajo a distancia.
I need good internet service because I work remotely. - ¿Cuál es tu/su clave del wifi?

Redes sociales Social media
Of course, if you’re talking about the internet you may want to talk about social media: usar las redes sociales (to use social media), tener Facebook/Twitter (to be on Facebook/Twitter), tener una cuenta en Instagram/LinkedIn (to have an account on Instagram/LinkedIn), seguir una cuenta (to follow an account), dejar de seguir una cuenta (to unfollow an account), gustar una publicación / darle ‘gustar’ a una publicación (to like a post), dejar un comentario (to leave a comment), responder un comentario (to reply to a comment), tuitear (to tweet), retuitear (to retweet), un tuit (a tweet), publicar una foto (to post a photo), eliminar / borraa una cuenta (to delete an account).

Why did you post that? - Ojalá no hubiera tuiteado eso.
I wish I hadn’t tweeted that. - Él/Ella borró/eliminó el tuit.
He/She deleted the tweet. - Tiene(s) muchos amigos en Facebook.
You have a lot of Facebook friends! - Él/Ella me envió una solicitud de amistad.
He/She sent me a friend request. - No debe(s) discutir con extraños en las redes sociales.
You shouldn’t argue with strangers on social media. - Odio las redes sociales. Voy a eliminar todas mis cuentas.
