Im Kino: At the Movies/Cinema
Here’s some vocabulary for when you finally get to the cinema to see the movie.
- Ich habe die Karten online gekauft.
I bought tickets online. - Wir müssen die Karten am Kino kaufen.
We have to buy tickets at the cinema. - Boah, Kinokarten sind ja teuer!
Wow, movie tickets are expensive! - Wir haben super Plätze.
We have great seats. - Wir haben lausige Plätze.
We have awful seats. - Ich kann alles perfekt sehen!
I can see perfectly! - Ich kann überhaupt nichts sehen! Der Typ da versperrt mir die Sicht.
I can’t see a thing! This guy is blocking my view. - Ich hab’ Lust auf Popcorn.
I feel like getting some popcorn. - Die Leute da reden zu laut!
Those people are talking too loud! - Das Kino ist viel zu voll.
The cinema is too crowded. - Ruhe! Der Film fängt an.
Be quiet! The movie’s starting. - Ich muss aufs Klo, aber ich will nichts verpassen.
I have to go to the bathroom but I don’t want to miss anything!

I don’t feel like watching that movie. How about this one? - Wo ist die Fernbedienung?
Where’s the remote [control]? - Stopp mal eben. Ich muss aufs Klo.
Pause it. I have to go to the bathroom. - Spul mal zurück! Was hat sie gesagt?
Rewind! What did she say?
Ich fand den Film super. I loved that movie.
Hopefully you really liked what you saw. If so, you may want to say this.
- Der Film war toll/fantastisch/wundervoll.
The movie was great/fantastic/wonderful. - Die haben echt gut gespielt.
The acting was really good. - Die Handlung war originell.
The plot was original. - Es war echt spannend und aufregend.
It was very fast-paced and exciting. - Die Hauptfigur fand ich super.
I loved the main character. - Das war toll gefilmt.
The filming was beautiful. - Es gab eine überraschende Wende in der Handlung.
There was a surprising plot twist. - Den Film könnte ich mir nochmal ansehen.
I would see that movie again. - Ich kann ihn nur empfehlen, den solltest du dir ansehen!

Ich fand den Film schrecklich. I hated that movie.
But of course, lots of movies are complete duds.
- Der Film war schrecklich/furchtbar.
The movie was terrible/awful. - Die haben miserabel gespielt.
The acting was really bad. - Die Handlung war überhaupt nicht originell.
The plot was unoriginal. - Der Film war total langatmig und langweilig.
It was very slow and boring. - Die Hauptfigur hat mir nicht gefallen.
I didn’t like the main character. - Es war schlecht gefilmt.
The filming was bad. - Die Handlung war total vorhersehbar.
The plot was completely predictable. - Der Film war Zeit- und Geldverschwendung.
That movie was a waste of time and money! - Sieh dir den Film nicht an, der würde dir überhaupt nicht gefallen.
Don’t see that movie, you would hate it.
