Let’s start with i mobili furniture and other basic things that you’re likely to find in the living room: un divano a sofa/couch, una poltrona an armchair, un tavolino a coffee table, un tavolo a table, una sedia a chair, uno scaffale a shelf, un ottomano an ottoman, un camino a fireplace, una porta a door, una finestra a window, il pavimento the floor, un muro a wall, il soffitto the ceiling, un comignolo a chimney, un armadio a closet.
- Il nostro divano è davvero comodo.
Our sofa is really comfortable. - Spesso mi siedo in poltrona e leggo.
I often sit in the armchair and read. - Ci sono molti libri sugli scaffali.
There are a lot of books on the bookshelves.
- Il telecomando è sul tavolino.
The remote control is on the coffee table. - Metto i piedi sul pouf quando guardo la televisione.
I put my feet on the ottoman when I watch television. - C’è un tavolino davanti alla finestra.

In addition to the basic pieces of furniture you probably have in your living room, you most likely have: la moquette a carpet, un tappeto a rug, un cuscino a cushion, una coperta a blanket, una lampada a lamp, un paralume a lampshade, un fotografo a photograph, un quadro a (framed) painting, un dipinto a painting/painted picture, una cornice a picture frame, un vaso a vase, le tende curtains.

That lamp has a beautiful lampshade. - Abbiamo foto della nostra famiglia incorniciate sul muro.
We have photos of our family in frames on the wall. - Dove dovremmo appendere questo nuovo quadro?
Where should we hang this new painting? - Devo mettere dei fiori nel vaso.

Nowadays there are loads of gadgets in the typical living room. How many of these do you have? un computer a computer, Wifi WiFi, un orologio a clock, una televisione a television, uno stereo a stereo, una radio a radio, una cassa a speaker, un lettore DVD a DVD player, un modem a modem, un router a router, un telecomando a remote control.
- Qual è la tua password WiFi?

Lavori domestici e riparazioni Housework and Repairs
Like any room in the house, you’ve got to keep the living room clean. And sometimes, you may want to redecorate. Which brings us to: pulire to clean, mettere a posto to tidy up, un’aspirapolvere a vacuum cleaner, aspirare il pavimento to vacuum the floor, spolverare to dust, pulire le finestre to clean the windows, pitturare to paint, aggiustare/riparare to fix/repair, sostituire/rimpiazzare to replace.
- Il soggiorno è disordinato. Dobbiamo mettere in ordine prima che arrivino i nostri ospiti.
The living room is messy. We need to tidy up before our guests get here. - Devo passare l’aspirapolvere sulla moquette.
I have to vacuum the carpet. - Gli scaffali sono impolverati! Ho bisogno di spolverarli.
The bookshelves are dusty! I need to dust them. - Le finestre sono sporche. Dobbiamo pulirle.
The windows are dirty. We need to clean them. - Per favore pulisci/pulite il tavolino con un tovagliolo di carta.

How do you use your living room?
