La primavera: Talking about Spring in Spanish

In this post, we’ll learn vocabulary expressions that you can use to talk about spring in Spanish. First, we’ll learn some general vocabulary that you can use to welcome the season. Next, we’ll see some expressions that you can use to talk about spring weather and longer days. After that we’ll see some expressions that you can use to talk about a spring mood. Finally, we’ll end with expressions and vocabulary to talk about the natural world during the spring.

¡Llegó la primavera! Spring is here!

At long last, el clima frío the cold weather and los días cortos the short days of winter are over, at least in the northern hemisphere. Even if other things going on in the world are not very happy, at least we have the spring to enjoy. And that means un clima más cálido warmer weather, días más largos longer days, more sunlight, and of course muchas flores hermosas lots of beautiful flowers. So, let’s cover some happy, bright vocabulary to help you talk about the spring in Spanish.

Los días son más cálidos. The days are warmer.

The best things about spring are probably el buen clima the nice weather and la hermosa luz del sol the beautiful sunshine. Hopefully you’ll find plenty of occasions to say:

• El clima está agradable.
  The weather is nice.
• Está templado hoy.
  It’s warm today.
• Está soleado hoy.
  It’s sunny today.
• El cielo está azul.
  The sky is blue.
• El sol está brillando.
  The sun is shining.

Los días son más largos.  The days are longer.

Every year after adelantamos los relojes we turn the clocks ahead we immediately have an hour more of sunlight. Which of course means:

• Tenemos más luz solar.
  We have more daylight.
• La noche es más corta.
  The night is shorter.
• Anochece más tarde.
  The sun sets later.
• El sol sale más temprano.
  The sun rises earlier.

Even if that one isn’t technically true, it seems that way. And spring is as much an attitude as anything else. Speaking of which…

¡Estoy feliz! I am happy!

It’s no exaggeration that many people’s moods change in the spring. Everything is brighter and happier, so you might want to say:

• Hoy estoy de buen humor.
  I’m in a good mood today.
• Estoy feliz porque es primavera.
  I’m happy because it’s spring.
• Tengo más energía.
  I have more energy.
• Me siento excelente.
  I feel great. 

La naturaleza: Nature

In the spring you probably want to talk about los pájaros the birds, las flores the flowers, and las hojas verdes the green leaves.

• Las flores florecen.
  The flowers are blooming.
• Las hojas florecen.
  Leaves are budding.
• Los pájaros cantan.
  The birds are singing.
• El aire es fresco.
  The air is fresh.

Even if things are difficult, thinking about spring will hopefully bring una sonrisa a smile to your face.
