Прекрасная погода. The weather is beautiful.

For many people, the weather is the greatest thing about summer. So, let’s give you some expressions you can use.

• Сегодня прекрасная погода.
  The weather is beautiful today.
• Солнце светит.
  The sun is shining.
• Ни облачка на небе. 
  There are no clouds in the sky.

• Приятный ветерок.
  There’s a nice breeze.
• Воздух свеж.
  The air is fresh.
• Прекрасный день.
  It’s a perfect day.

Слишком жарко! It’s too hot!

Of course, not everyone loves summer weather. If you’re one of those people, you may want to say something like:

• Сегодня слишком жарко.
  It’s too hot today.
• Очень влажно.
  It’s very humid.
• Я взмок(ла).
  I’m sweating.
• Включи(те) кондиционер!
  Put the air-conditioner on!

No post about summer in Russian would be complete without vocabulary for enjoying the outdoors. Whether you like расслабляющие мероприятия на свежем воздухе relaxing outdoor activities or спорт sports, there’s usually something for everyone in the summer.

• Пойдём(те) прогуляемся. 
  Let’s go for a walk.
• Я хочу пойти в парк.
  I want to go to the park.
• Давай(те) присядем и встретим закат.
  Let’s sit and watch the sunset.
• У нас пикник на этих выходных.
  We’re having a picnic this weekend.
• Давай(те) покатаемся на велосипедах.
  Let’s go for a bike ride.
• Давай(те) отправимся в поход в горы.
  Let’s go for a hike in the mountains.
• Давай(те) поиграем в теннис.
  Let’s play tennis.
• Давай(те) поиграем в баскетбол.
  Let’s play basketball.
• Давай(те) поиграем в футбол.
  Let’s play soccer.
• Давай(те) поиграем в бейсбол.
  Let’s play baseball.
• Я хочу пробежаться.
  I want to go for a run.
• Мы собираемся в горы заниматься скалолазанием.
  Мы собираемся в горы скалолазить.
  We’re going rock climbing.

Пойдём(те) на пляж. Let’s go to the beach.

Talking about the beach is a big part of talking about summer in Russian. If you’re going, you’ll probably want to know these words: купальник/плавки a swimsuit (for women/for men), полотенце a towel, солнечные очки sunglasses, солнцезащитный крем sunscreen, хорошая книга a good book, сёрф доска/сёрфборд a surfboard. Here are some things you may see at the beach: океан the ocean, волна a wave, песок sand, ракушки seashells, маяк a lighthouse, чайка a seagull, краб a crab, медуза a jellyfish, рыба a fish, морская звезда a starfish, акула a shark, дельфин a dolphin, лодка a boat, набережная/променад the boardwalk, магазин/киоск мороженого an ice cream shop. Some other expressions that will come in handy are:

• Я хочу полежать на солнце.
  I want to lie in the sun.
• Пойдём(те) плавать.
  Let’s go swimming.
• Я загораю.
  I’m getting a suntan.
• Я получил солнечный ожёг.
  I got a sun burn.
• Давай(те) построим песочный замок.
  Let’s build a sandcastle.
• Давай(те) поиграем в волнах.
  Let’s play in the waves.
• Давайте поищем ракушки.
  Let’s look for seashells.
• Я хочу мороженое.
  I want ice cream.

Тихая летняя ночь A Quiet Summer Night

Солнце садится поздно летом. The sun sets late in the summer. But there’s nothing like a nice summer night, whether you’re having drinks outside with your friends, or you’re just sitting and listening to nature.

• Давай(те) посидим снаружи. 
  Let’s sit outside.
• Ночь прохладна.
  The night is cool.
• Я слышу сверчков.
  I hear crickets.
• Я вижу светлячков.
  I see lightning bugs.
• Ветерок покачивает деревья.
  The breeze is blowing through the trees.
• Луна восходит.
  The moon is rising.
• Завтра будет еще один прекрасный день.
  Tomorrow will be another beautiful day.
