Valentine’s Day is coming up, so let’s cover some Spanish vocabulary and expressions to help you talk about all things love.

¿Me quieres? Do you love me?

Let’s start with some basics. If you’re talking to your significant other, you might want to use a pet name like mi vida sweetheart, cariño/a darling, mi amor my love, or bebé baby.

• Te quiero. / Te amo.
  I love you.
• La quiero. / La amo.
  I love her.
• Lo quiero. / Lo amo.
  I love him.

• Esta es mi novia.
  This is my girlfriend.
• Este es mi novio.
  This is my boyfriend.
• Esta es mi esposa.
  This is my wife.
• Este es mi esposo.
  This is my husband.
• ¡Feliz día de San Valentín!
  Happy Valentine’s Day!
• ¡Feliz aniversario!
  Happy Anniversary.
• Te extraño.
  I miss you.

Ella me gusta mucho. I really like her.

If someone has caught your eye, you might want to say:

• (Él/Ella) Me gusta mucho.
  I really like him/her.
• Es muy guapo / bien parecido.
  He is really good-looking.
• Ella es muy guapa / bien parecida.
  She is really good-looking.
• Es bellísima.
  She’s beautiful.
• Es guapo.
  He’s handsome.
• Es divertido/a.
  He/She is funny.
• Es interesante.
  He/She is interesting.
• Es inteligente.
  He/She is smart.

¿Te gustaría salir a cenar conmigo? Do you want to have dinner with me?

Maybe there’s a mutual attraction? One way to find out is to ask.

• ¿Quieres salir conmigo? / ¿Quieres quedar conmigo? (Spain)
  Do you want to go out with me?
• ¿Quieres tomarte un café / tomarte algo conmigo?
  Do you want to have coffee/drinks with me?
• Cenemos juntos.
  Let’s have dinner together.
• Disfruté / He disfrutado mucho conocerte.
  I really enjoyed getting to know you.
• ¿Te gustaría salir conmigo alguna vez?
  Do you want to go out again some time?
• Quiero verte otra vez.
  I want to see you again.
• Quiero besarte.
  I want to kiss you.

Hemos estado juntos durante un año. We’ve been together for a year.

If you’re in a long-term relationship, you might want to know how to say:

• ¿Cuánto tiempo llevan juntos?
  How long have you two been together?
• ¿Cómo se conocieron?
  How did you two meet?
• Nos conocimos en el trabajo/en la escuela.
  We met at work/school.
• Nos conocimos en una fiesta/en un bar.
  We met at a party/bar.
• Nos conocimos por Internet.
  We met online.
• Nuestros amigos/padres nos presentaron.
  Our friends/parents introduced us.
• Hemos estado juntos desde hace un año/dos años/mucho tiempo.
  We’ve been together for a year/two years/a long time.
• Vivimos juntos.
  We live together.
• No nos hemos casado todavía.
  We’re not married yet.
• Queremos casarnos, pero no estamos listos.
  We want to get married, but we’re not ready.

¿Quieres casarte conmigo? Will you marry me?

If you decide that you want to get married, you might want to say:

• Vamos a casarnos.
  Let’s get married.
• Estamos comprometidos.
  We’re engaged.
• Este es mi anillo de compromiso.
  This is my engagement ring.
• Este es mi prometido.
  This is my fiancé.
• Esta es mi prometida.
  This is my fiancée.
• Estamos planificando nuestra boda.
  We’re planning our wedding.
• Nuestra boda será simple y pequeña.
  Our wedding will be simple and small.
• La novia es bellísima.
  The bride is beautiful.
• El novio es guapísimo.
  The groom is handsome.
• La boda estuvo bellísima.
  The wedding was beautiful.
• Este es mi esposo/marido.
  This is my husband.
• Esta es mi esposa/mujer.
  This is my wife.
• ¿Cuándo tiempo llevan casados?
  How long have you been married?
• Hoy es nuestro aniversario de bodas.
  Today is our wedding anniversary.

Ya no estamos juntos. We’re not together anymore.

Hopefully your relationship is long and strong and full of happiness. But, sometimes things just don’t work out.

• No son felices juntos.
  They’re not happy together.
• Siempre están discutiendo.
  They argue all the time.
• Están peleando.
  They’re having a big fight.
• Le fue infiel (a ella). / La engañó.
  He cheated on her.
• Le fue infiel (a él). / Lo engañó.
  She cheated on him.
• Está teniendo una aventura.
  He/She is having an affair.
• Quiero romper contigo.
  I want to break up with you.
• Quiero el divorcio.
  I want to get a divorce.
• Se separaron.
  They broke up.
• Se divorciaron.
  They got divorced.

¡Feliz día de San Valentín! Happy Valentine’s Day

For now, though, let’s just focus on the positive.

• Estas flores son para ti.
  These flowers are for you.
• Estos chocolates son para ti.
  These chocolates are for you.
• Tengamos una cena romántica.
  Let’s have a romantic dinner.
• Eres muy importante para mí.
  You’re very important to me.
• Quiero pasarme la vida contigo. / Quiero pasar el resto de mi vida contigo.
  I want to spend my life with you.
• Siempre estoy pensando en ti.
  I think about you all the time.
