Most people enjoy certain kinds of films more than others. Let’s look at how to talk about movie genres, which ones you like, and which ones you don’t.

En el cine: At the Movies
Here’s some vocabulary for when you finally get to the cinema to see the movie.
- Compré las entradas/los boletos en línea.
I bought tickets online. - Tenemos que comprar las entradas/los boletos en el cine.
We have to buy tickets at the cinema. - ¡Vaya, las entradas/los boletos para el cine son costosas/costosos.
Wow, movie tickets are expensive! - Tenemos muy buenos asientos.
We have great seats. - Tenemos asientos muy malos.
We have awful seats. - Puedo ver perfectamente.
I can see perfectly! - ¡No puedo ver nada! Ese tipo no me deja ver.
I can’t see a thing! This guy is blocking my view. - Tengo ganas de comer palomitas de maíz.
I feel like getting some popcorn. - Esas personas están hablando demasiado alto.
Those people are talking too loud! - El cine está demasiado lleno.
The cinema is too crowded. - ¡Silencio! La película está empezando.

For many people, watching movies at home is easier and more enjoyable.

Let’s stream a movie tonight. - Hay demasiadas películas para escoger.
There are too many movies to choose from. - No tengo ganas de ver esa película. ¿Qué tal esta?
I don’t feel like watching that movie. How about this one? - ¿Dónde está el control remoto/el mando?
Where’s the remote? - ¡Pon pausa! Tengo que ir al baño.
Pause it! I have to go to the bathroom. - ¡Retrocédela!¿Qué dijo ella?
Rewind! What did she say?
Me encantó esa película. I loved that movie.
Hopefully you really liked what you saw. If so, you may want to say this.
- La película fue genial/fantástica/maravillosa.
The movie was great/fantastic/wonderful. - Las actuaciones fueron muy buenas.
The acting was really good. - La trama fue original.
The plot was original. - Fue muy rápida y emocionante.
It was very fast-paced and exciting. - Me encantó el personaje principal.
I loved the main character. - La fotografía fue hermosa.
The filming was beautiful. - Hubo un sorprendente giro en la trama.
There was a surprising plot twist. - Volvería a ver esa película.
I would see that movie again. - Te la recomiendo bastante. ¡Tienes que verla!
I highly recommend it, you should see it!
Esa película no me gustó para nada. I hated that movie.
But of course, lots of movies are complete duds.
- La película fue malísima/terrible.
The movie was terrible/awful. - Las actuaciones fueron muy malas.
The acting was really bad. - La trama fue muy trillada/poco original.
The plot was unoriginal. - Fue muy lenta y aburrida.
It was very slow and boring. - No me gustó el personaje principal.
