Valentine’s Day is coming up, so let’s cover some Russian vocabulary and expressions to help you talk about all things love.

Ты любишь меня? Do you love me?

Let’s start with some basics. If you’re talking to your significant other, you might want to use a pet name like милая (f) sweetheart, дорогая / любимая (f) darling, моя любовь (f) my love, or малыш (m) baby.

• Я люблю тебя.
  I love you.
• Я люблю её.
  I love her.
• Я люблю его.
  I love him.

• Это мой парень / Это моя девушка. 
  This is my boyfriend/girlfriend.
• Это мой муж / супруг.
  This is my husband.
• Это моя жена / супруга.
  This is my wife.
• С Днём Святого Валентина!
  Happy Valentine’s Day!
• С годовщиной. 
  Happy Anniversary.
• Я скучаю по тебе. 
  I miss you.

Она мне очень нравится. I really like her. 

If someone has caught your eye, you might want to say:

• Он / Она мне очень нравится.
  I really like him/her.
• Она очень красива. 
  She’s is really good-looking.
• Он очень красив. 
  He’s really good-looking.
• Она красивая.
  She’s beautiful.
• Он красивый/интересный.
  He’s handsome.
• Он/она забавный/забавная.
  He/She is funny.
• Он/она интересный/интересная.
  He/She is interesting. 
• Он/она умный/умная.
  He/She is smart.

Хочешь поужинать со мной? Do you want to have dinner with me?

Maybe there’s a mutual attraction? One way to find out is to ask.

• Хочешь встретиться со мной на свидание?
  Do you want to go out with me?
• Хочешь встретиться на кофе/чай со мной?
  Do you want to have coffee/drinks with me?
• Давай(те) поужинаем вместе. 
  Let’s have dinner together.
• Мне было очень приятно узнать вас/тебя поближе.
  I really enjoyed getting to know you.
• Хочешь/хотите опять встретиться на свидание?
  Do you want to go out again some time?
• Я хочу (у)видеть тебя/вас снова/опять.
  I want to see you again.
• Я хочу поцеловать тебя.
  I want to kiss you.

Мы вместе уже год. We’ve been together for a year.

If you’re in a long-term relationship, you might want to know how to say:

• Как долго вы вместе?
  How long have you two been together?
• Как вы познакомились?
  How did you two meet?
• Мы познакомились на работе/в школе.
  We met at work/school.
• Мы познакомились на вечеринке/в баре.
  We met at a party/bar.
• Мы познакомились онлайн.
  We met online.
• Наши друзья/родители познакомили нас друг с другом. 
  Our friends/parents introduced us. 
• Мы вместе уже год/два года/долгое время.
  We’ve been together for a year/two years/a long time.
• Мы живём вместе.
  We live together.
• Мы ещё не женаты.
  We’re not married yet.
• Мы хотим пожениться, но мы ещё не готовы. 
  We want to get married, but we’re not ready.

Ты выйдешь за меня? Will you marry me?

If you decide that you want to get married, you might want to say:

• Ты выйдешь за меня?
  Will you marry me? (to a woman)
• Ты женишься на мне?
  Will you marry me? (to a man)
• Давай поженимся. 
  Let’s get married.
• Мы обручены.
  We’re engaged. 
• Это моё обручальное кольцо.
  This is my engagement ring.
• Это мой жених/моя невеста.
  This is my fiancé / fiancée.
• Мы планируем нашу свадьбу.
  We’re planning our wedding.
• Наша свадьба будет скромной и небольшой.
  Our wedding will be simple and small.
• Невеста красива.
  The bride is beautiful.
• Жених красив.
  The groom is handsome. 
• Свадьба была прекрасна. 
  The wedding was beautiful.
• Это мой муж.
  This is my husband.
• Это моя жена. 
  This is my wife. 
• Как долго вы женаты?
  How long have you been married?
• Сегодня годовщина нашей свадьбы. 
  Today is our wedding anniversary. 

Мы больше не вместе. We’re not together anymore. 

Hopefully your relationship is long and strong and full of happiness. But, sometimes things just don’t work out.

• Они не счастливы вместе.
  They’re not happy together.
• Они всё время спорят.
  They argue all the time.
• У них большая ссора.
  They’re having a big fight.
• Он изменил ей.
  He cheated on her.
• Она изменила ему. 
  She cheated on him.
• У него/неё роман.
  He/She is having an affair. 
• Я хочу расстаться с тобой.
  I want to break up with you.
• Я хочу развестись.
  I want to get a divorce.
• Они расстались.
  They broke up.
• Они развелись.
  They got divorced.

С Днём Святого Валентина! Happy Valentine’s Day!

For now, though, let’s just focus on the positive.

• Эти цветы тебе/вам.
  These flowers are for you.
• Этот шоколад тебе/вам.
  These chocolates are for you.
• Давай устроим романтический ужин. 
  Let’s have a romantic dinner.
• Ты очень важен/важна для меня. 
  You’re very important to me.
• Я хочу провести с тобой свою жизнь.
  I want to spend my life with you.
• Я всё время думаю о тебе. 
  I think about you all the time.
