In this post we’ll cover basic Chinese vocabulary and expressions related to the weather.
天空 tiān kōng: The Sky
Let’s start with some basic vocabulary.
- 太阳 tài yáng sun
- 云 yún cloud
- 天空 tiān kōng sky
- 风 fēng wind
- 雨 yǔ rain
- 雪 xuě snow
- 暴风雨 bào fēng yǔ storm
- 打雷 dǎ léi thunder
- 闪电 shǎn diàn lightning
天气怎么样?Tiān qì zěn me yàng? What’s the Weather Like?
Now let’s see some general weather expressions.
- 今天/这个周末天气怎么样?
Jīn tiān / zhè gè zhōu mò tiān qì zěn me yàng?
What’s the weather like today/this weekend? - 今天天气真好。
Jīn tiān tiān qì zhēn hǎo.
It’s a beautiful day. - 天气晴朗。
Tiān qì qíng lǎng.
It’s sunny. - 天气很热。
Tiān qì hěn rè.
It’s hot. - 天气很冷。
Tiān qì hěn lěng.
It’s cold. - 多云。
Duō yún.
It’s cloudy. - 风很大。
Fēng hěn dà.
It’s windy. - 下雨了。
Xià yǔ le.
It’s raining. - 下雪啦。
Xià xuě la.
It’s snowing. - 有一场暴风雨。
Yǒu yì chǎng bào fēng yǔ.
There’s a storm. - 天气潮湿闷热。
Tiān qì cháo shī mēn rè.
It’s humid.
太热了! Tài rè le! It’s too hot!
Here are some expressions that you can use to talk about hot weather.
- 今天太热了。
Jīn tiān tài rè le.
It’s too hot today. - 天气很潮湿闷热。
Tiān qì hěn cháo shī mēn rè.
It’s very humid. - 我在冒汗。
Wǒ zài mào hàn.
I’m sweating. - 把空调打开!
Bǎ kōng tiáo dǎ kāi!
Put the air-conditioner on! - 我喜欢/非常喜欢温暖的天气。
Wǒ xǐ huān / fēi cháng xǐ huān wēn nuǎn de tiān qì.
I like/really like warm weather.
外面很冷! Wài miàn hěn lěng! It’s Cold Outside!
Here are some expressions that you can use to talk about cold weather.
- 天气很冷。
Tiān qì hěn lěng.
It’s cold. - 太冷了!
Tài lěng le!
It’s freezing! - 下雪啦。
Xià xuě la.
It’s snowing. - 现在是雨夹雪。
Xiàn zài shì yǔ jiā xuě.
It’s sleeting. - 天气又冷又有风。
Tiān qì yòu lěng yòu yǒu fēng.
It’s cold and windy. - TRANS
The snow is beautiful. - 这个星期将有一场暴风雪。
Zhè gè xīng qī jiāng yǒu yì chǎng bào fēng xuě.
We’re going to have a blizzard this week. - 我在发抖!
Wǒ zài fā dǒu!
I’m shivering! - 我喜欢/真的很喜欢雪。
Wǒ xǐ huān / zhēn de hěn xǐ huān xuě.
I like/really like snow.
