In this post we’ll talk about vocabulary and expressions related to music: what you listen to, what you dance to, and what kind of musical instruments you may play.
Me encanta esta canción. I love this song.
Let’s start with some of the basics. If you want to talk about music, you’ll want to know how to say: una canción song, un cantante/una cantante singer, un grupo/una banda group/band, un álbum album, la letra lyrics, la radio radio, un video musical music video, escuchar música to listen to music, cantar to sing, bailar to dance.

Turn the volume down! The music is too loud. - Esta canción tiene un buen ritmo.

I always sing along to this song. - Siempre bailo esta canción.
I always dance to this song. - No me sé la letra de esta canción. No conozco la letra de esta canción.

This is my favorite music video. - Esta banda acaba de estrenar un álbum. Es genial.

People have all sorts of different taste in music. If you want to talk about music, it’s helpful to know how to say different instruments: un piano piano, una guitarra guitar, una guitarra eléctrica electric guitar, una batería drum, un teclado keyboard, un violín violin, una trompeta trumpet, una flauta flute, un clarinete clarinet, un saxofón saxophone, un violonchelo/chelo cello, una tuba tuba, un trombón trombone, un órgano organ, un acordeón accordion. You will also need to know the verb tocar to play (a musical instrument).
- Cantamos en un coro.
We sing in a choir. - Cuando era joven tocaba el piano.
I played piano when I was younger. - Quiero aprender a tocar guitarra.
I want to learn how to play the guitar. - Toco el violín, pero no muy bien.
Sé tocar el violín, pero no muy bien.

I like to sing in the shower. - Cantas muy bien. Tienes una gran voz.
