Everyone loves a good film. Well, maybe not everyone. If you’re more of a book person, check out this post. But if you like movies, let’s start with some really basic Korean vocabulary.

Most people enjoy certain kinds of films more than others. Let’s look at how to talk about movie genres, which ones you like, and which ones you don’t.

You may have a lot to say during the months (or years!) before a big film is released.

  • 이것은 속편이고, 첫번째 영화가 좋았어요.

Here’s some vocabulary for when you finally get to the cinema to see the movie.

    I bought tickets online.
  • 극장에서 표를 사야 해요.
    geugjang-eseo pyo-reul saya haeyo.

    We have to buy tickets at the cinema.

    Wow, movie tickets are expensive!
  • 좋은 자리에 있어요.

    We have great seats.
  • 안좋은 자리에 있어요.

    I can see perfectly!

For many people, watching movies at home is easier and more enjoyable.

    I don’t feel like watching that movie. How about this one?

Hopefully you really liked what you saw. If so, you may want to say this.

영화가 싫었어요. geu yeonghwa-ga shileosseoyo. I hated that movie.

But of course, lots of movies are complete duds.
