Most people enjoy certain kinds of films more than others. Let’s look at how to talk about movie genres, which ones you like, and which ones you don’t.

No Cinema At the Movies/Cinema
Here’s some vocabulary for when you finally get to the cinema to see the movie.
- Eu comprei os ingressos pela internet.
I bought tickets online. - Precisamos comprar ingressos no cinema.
We have to buy tickets at the cinema. - Uau, os ingressos de cinema estão caros!
Wow, movie tickets are expensive! - Nossos lugares são ótimos.
We have great seats. - Nossos lugares são péssimos.
We have awful seats. - Dá para ver perfeitamente!
I can see perfectly! - Não dá para ver nada! Esse cara está bem na minha frente.
I can’t see a thing! This guy is blocking my view. - Estou com vontade de comprar pipoca.
I feel like getting some popcorn. - Aquelas pessoas estão falando alto demais.
Those people are talking too loud! - O cinema está lotado.
The cinema is too crowded. - Silêncio! O filme vai começar.
Be quiet! The movie’s starting. - Eu tenho que ir ao banheiro, mas não quero perder nada.
I have to go to the bathroom but I don’t want to miss anything!

For many people, watching movies at home is easier and more enjoyable.

Let’s stream a movie tonight. - Há filmes demais para escolher.
There are too many movies to choose from. - Não estou com vontade de assistir àquele filme. Que tal este?
I don’t feel like watching that movie. How about this one? - Onde está o controle remoto?
Where’s the remote [control]? - Pause! Eu preciso ir ao banheiro.
Pause it! I have to go to the bathroom. - Volte! O que ela disse?
Rewind! What did she say?
Amei aquele filme. I loved that movie.
Hopefully you really liked what you saw. If so, you may want to say this.
- O filme foi ótimo / fantástico / maravilhoso.
The movie was great/fantastic/wonderful. - A atuação foi realmente boa.
The acting was really good. - O enredo era original.
The plot was original. - Era muito movimentado e emocionante.
It was very fast-paced and exciting. - Amei o/a personagem principal.
I loved the main character. - A fotografia era linda.
The filming was beautiful. - Teve uma reviravolta surpreendente no enredo.
There was a surprising plot twist. - Eu veria aquele filme de novo.
I would see that movie again. - Eu o recomendo muito, você deveria vê-lo.
I highly recommend it, you should see it!
Odiei aquele filme. I hated that movie.
But of course, lots of movies are complete duds.
- O filme era horrível / péssimo.
The movie was terrible/awful. - A atuação era realmente muito ruim.
The acting was really bad. - O enredo não era original.
The plot was unoriginal. - Era lento e chato.
It was very slow and boring. - Eu não gostei do/a personagem principal.
I didn’t like the main character. - A fotografia era ruim.
The filming was bad. - O enredo era completamente previsível.
The plot was completely predictable. - Aquele filme foi um desperdício de tempo e dinheiro!
That movie was a waste of time and money! - Não veja aquele filme, você vai odiá-lo.
Don’t see that movie, you would hate it.
